The members of the Neonatal Therapy National Certification Board (NTNCB) are pleased to announce the development of neonatal therapy certification.
Occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech language pathologists who meet the professional standard for independent practice in the NICU will be able to apply to become a Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT).
The development of the NTNCB was initiated by NANT (National Association of Neonatal Therapists) in 2014.The NTNCB consists of a multi-disciplinary team that is dedicated to excellence in neonatal therapy. More than 2 years ago, NTNCB embarked on a journey to develop standards for neonatal therapy certification. These standards ensure that the people to whom certification is issued have demonstrated a defined minimum level of knowledge and experience in order to deliver safe and effective therapy to high-risk newborns.
Three reasons why neonatal therapy certification is right for you:
1. Certification demonstrates your commitment to neonatal therapy. Receiving certification shows your colleagues as well as the families you serve that you are committed to excellence. Certification identifies you as a leader in the field.
2. Certification improves the public’s understanding of the role and value of neonatal therapists. Identifying neonatal therapists who have met a professional standard highlights the skills and contributions of neonatal therapy to the infant care team. Certification improves confidence among the team that the neonatal therapist will provide timely, effective, safe, evidenced based interventions to high risk infants.
3. Certification expands the skills and knowledge of neonatal therapists while establishing professional credentials. Certification recognizes individuals who achieve a standard of excellence. It ensures evidence is used to guide practice and that those who are certified are up-to-date on the latest developments.
