This half-day pre-conference session, Ready or Not: Developmental Participation Skills Assessment, takes you on a deep dive into readiness and participation within caring encounters. Learn how to utilize this observational and reflective tool for assessment of readiness and participation to enhance your next caregiving interaction. Explore and debunk myths related to readiness through the use of this innovative tool. The Developmental Participation Skills Assessment provides a transdisciplinary structure to guide interaction. Through insightful discussion and use of videos, prepare to expand your neonatal therapy practice. This observational instrument has the potential to guide practice by inviting the clinician to initiate care based upon the baby’s inherent readiness and participation capabilities for a positive caregiving interaction. The Developmental Participation Skills Assessment tool supports the caregiver’s mindful presence and invites opportunity to attune to the baby, thereby enhancing the quality-of-care experience for both the baby, family, and clinician. The Developmental Participation Skills Assessment has shown content validity and has the potential to be a clinically useful tool for all hospitalized babies.
