Description: Pediatric Orthopaedic conditions may present in the newborn period. Common musculoskeletal conditions including developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), clubfoot, and congenital knee dislocation, may be diagnosed and treatment commenced during the perinatal period. Recognition of the common physical signs of these conditions is essential for a timely diagnosis. Additionally, therapeutic intervention even in the newborn period may be performed with good clinical efficacy.

Objectives: As a result of participation in this continuing education activity, participants should be able to:

1. Identify clinical signs of common pediatric orthopedic conditions that affect the newborn including developmental dislocation of the hip, clubfoot, and congenital knee dislocation.

2. Describe and apply therapeutic techniques to treat common pediatric orthopedic conditions in the newborn including clubfoot and congenital knee dislocation.

3. Summarize outcomes of treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip and clubfeet to improve parental counseling.
