Powerful News for NICU Babies: Training and Mentoring Neonatal Therapists in 12 Countries

This isn’t just exciting news. It’s powerful news.

Neonatal physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists (and a few nurses!) from 12 countries have enrolled in NANT’s yearlong educational training and mentoring program called Ignite.

Although enrollment closed last week, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the deeper meaning here.

  • International participation enhances the breadth and depth of knowledge gained by both participants and mentors.
  • The multidisciplinary and collaborative nature of Ignite represents a refreshing focus on the end result of the training and mentoring program, which is to utilize our unique professions to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for premature and medically complex infants in partnership with their families.
  • Therapists tend to be tenacious leaders in efforts to advance practice in the NICU. Preparing therapists in 12 countries with the latest evidence, practices, and foundational core knowledge creates a ripple effect of true positive change.
  • While passion and dedication are difficult to measure, each class of Ignite leaves with more of both. It’s palpable. That pulse can now be felt around the world. This is good news for babies and families.

As an advanced specialty, neonatal therapy has found both its roots and its wings. Thank you individually and collectively for making that a reality.
