Several years ago, I made this little sign at the last minute before a NANT Conference. I can’t recall the year or venue. But I remember the overwhelming need to write down the words in my mind about the people attending and the tiny humans who brought us together.
While it’s clear that I’m not a graphic designer, I believe the message in this sign remains true. No matter who we are and where we come from, no matter which credentials we have behind our names or what initially drew each of us to the NICU, we stayed there because we care deeply about our sweet patients.
The sign still sits in my office, a bit battered and warped, but meaningful all the same. It’s a constant reminder that it takes all of us to deliver excellent care to the most vulnerable. And underneath and beyond all the frustrations of healthcare, babies are such a good reason to stay.
I look forward to meeting many new faces at NANT 15 and reconnecting with friends and colleagues from all over the globe. The world gets better for babies and families every time we convene.
