Prematurity Awareness Month: Share Reliable NICU Parent Resources

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month.

There are so many meaningful ways to raise awareness about this group of patients and families we care so deeply about. One powerful step is to share reliable resources created by NICU parents for NICU parents.

One of NANT’s Professional Affiliates, NICU Parent Network (NPN), has a map highlighting the name, geographical location, and website links for NPN Member Organizations in the U.S. and Europe. The map also makes it visually clear where more support and connection is needed.

As you know, babies are admitted to the NICU for myriad reasons/diagnoses outside of prematurity as well. NPN Member Organizations reflect that truth and provide multiple avenues for NICU parent support, including bereavement.

Approximately one in ten babies in the U.S. is born preterm. Everyone knows a former preemie. How we support and champion them and their families throughout a lifetime is too big and important to leave solely to healthcare. It requires human care. It takes us all.
