Course Description: The purpose of this presentation is to provide the intermediate to advanced level therapist an understanding of the validity, reliability and clinical application of the Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP). By the completion of the presentation, the learner will understand the construct of the assessment and be familiar with the administration, scoring, and clinical use of the TIMP for the treatment and follow-up of high-risk infants. The TIMP is an excellent tool for supporting evidenced based practice in the treatment of young infants. An overview of the TIMP is given. Theory and research on reliability and validity of the test is shared. Item administration and scoring is enhanced by use of video clips of infant testing. Information is presented on the use of the TIMP to diagnose delayed motor performance and in planning and assessing outcomes of intervention. Case studies are presented to further demonstrate the use of the TIMP in evidence-based practice.

- Describe the theoretical background and research on reliability and validity of the TIMP derived from studies of more than 990 infants.
- Describe appropriate uses of the TIMP in clinical practice and research.
- Demonstrate basic skills in correct administration and scoring of the TIMP to enhance evidence based practice in the NICU, NICU follow up clinics, and early intervention.
Instructional Method: Self-study online webinar followed by a learning assessment. Handouts provided.
